Roaming the landscape

A quick entry for Isaac's book cover idea from May.
I was planning on using the character Patrick designed, but ended up changing her hair color...

It's been a long year. Lots of good things, and lots of other stuff.
Looking forward to a Brand New year.

Happy New Year Everybody!

Crazy ol' republic Shae Vizla...always good for a laugh.

I saw that we have a grand total of zero (0) drawings posted for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Now that number has increased by one (1).

NEW CHALLENGE: STAR WARS!!!

There has been some super sweet trailers released lately regarding the new MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic full of awesome battle sequences and cool new characters never before seen in the universe. So with all of the expansiveness that is the Star Wars universe what better place to find inspiration for our next challenge? YOUR MISSION: Draw something from the Star Wars universe! Anything...Literally. Create your own Jedi if you want, or design your own galactic battle cruiser. If you feel that Jar Jar Binks has been misrepresented by the prequel trilogy and feel he would better suited as a dual-lightsaber-wielding-sith-lord, by all means, go for it! This challenge (as always) is meant to have fun and flex your creative muscles outside of work. May the force be with you!

(Since the month is pretty much half-way over and we're just posting now, don't worry about finishing it by the end of the month, or anytime for that matter. I guess now is a good time to say our challenge topics have NO DEADLINE! There's a nominal charge for this service).

Samurai + Chain Gun = AWESOME!

I don't know if there's a rule against posting stuff late but I wanted to at least show that I did something. Pretty much did this piece in one night, which I regret because there was so much more I wanted to do to with it. This concept definitely stood out to me in the trailer for this movie. I didn't watch this movie yet but i'm looking forward to the scenes with these guys in them.

May Challenge: Curse of the Martian Were-wolves from Mars!

When the extremely attractive astrospace physics professor Natalie Schwartzapfel lands on the first international mission to Mars, the last thing she expects to find there is an alien cemetery.

A sudden dust storm traps Natialie and her fellow astronauts in this extraterrestrial bone-yard. Somehow supernaturally protected from the ill-weather of Mars, Burtonesque flowers and trees bloom in the alien necrotopia.

But tragedy strikes as one by one the astronauts disappear, leaving only Natalie, a crazed war veteran named Pete, and their new-found space-zombie gerbil to discover what really is happening.

The Eagle has landed and the dead will walk again in Lane Steven Fox's new genre-bending thriller: Curse of the Martian Were-wolves from Mars!

Let the moons rise!

Your art challenge is to create artwork for the cover to this book.

The Best Movie I Never Saw...

Yes, that's right. I picked the topic and then didn't finish my piece.
Sucker Punch, I hear, is a lousy movie. The good thing about not seeing it is not knowing just how bad it is...

Oh, I may paint this one day, and add more of the mech.

Cloudy Sword Chick

I'm pretty sure this isn't quite what you had in mind, Daniel, but it was such a silly fun idea that I couldn't resist. Rambo + Cloud + angry chick = one bad anklebiter.

Don't mess with angry little bulbous chicks!

NEW CHALLENGE: SUCKER PUNCH!!!!!!!

So, you've always wanted to draw an image with loads of pop culture icons from whatever genre you feel like? Well, this is your lucky month!!! Samurai, Chicks with machine guns, Robots, Nazi Zombies, or a Dragon fighting a B1 Bomber piloted by said "Chicks." Have at it, fellow Wahooians. (Please keep the images Wahoo friendly. Not that anyone wouldn't, just saying -)

Thundercats HO!!!!!

Wish I had time to do more than one of these.  Still Panthro was the best.

New Challenge: 80's Cartoon

The challenge for this month is to redesign your favorite cartoon from your childhood.  Let's face it, He-Man was cool, but he could stand to have a makeover.  So have it.  He-Man, GIJoe, Smurfs, Snorks, Ducktales, Strawberry Shortcake, Carebears, Thundercats, whatever you want.  Enjoy.

Bumblesnake

I'm traveling and I don't have access to a scanner. However, I promised to post. Here is a cell phone photo of my sketchbook. Notice the sweet shadow cast by my phone and hand. Nothing but quality here. I will replace it later with a better version.

Croctopus

Fear the mighty croctopus.  Fear him I say.

Hippopossum!

Beware the Hippopossum! One of the most dangerous creatures of the African wild, now infused with the DNA of a tree-loving marsupial. Keep your eyes on the trees, and if you see one of these playing dead, don't investigate!

New Challenge: Abominations!

So the theme this month is to create an abomination.  Take two deadly animals and combine them into one super deadly animal.  SyFy channel has all kinds of movies about them, my favorite was Sharktopus!  Make up your own and have fun.  Croctopus, Piranhadile, Octobear, whatever you want!

Zeus vs Poseidon

With Zeus and Poseidon being brothers and the two most powerful gods in Olympia I like to think there was some sibling rivalry between the two.

Promethean Revolution

What if Prometheus was behind the Industrial Revolution? He gave fire to mankind, why not steam?

This seems to me to be a perfect place to blend mythology and steampunk design, two things that I've loved for years. Sadly, I didn't have much time to work on this, and the question is stronger than the sketch. It almost demands a full story and multiple illustrations.

Even so, this was fun to tinker with for a while.

Pallas Athena

Athena is such a cool goddess.

Medusa

I love Greek Mythology, and am always drawing characters and creatures from it.
For some reason, Medusa has always been one of my favorite...or at least in the top ten.

First Challenge: Greek Myth

Hey guys,
I know we tried this a couple years ago with little success, but now we have a few more artists at our disposal.  It's only a once a month thing too so it shouldn't be too much pressure.  Let's have some fun.  First topic: Greek Myth (interpret that however you want).

enjoy
